Liquid Gap Fillers

What are Liquid Gap Fillers?

Liquid gap fillers are a type of thermal interface material used to close the spaces between heat-generating components and heat sinks.

How do Liquid Gap Fillers Work?

Liquid gap fillers work by filling the gaps between heat-generating components and heat sinks by dispensing the liquid material between the two surfaces. The liquid material then flows to fill the gaps, ensuring that no gaps remain.

In addition to filling gaps, they can also help to improve the conformability of the thermal interface. This allows the liquid material to conform to the surface of the heat-generating component, ensuring that the liquid makes good contact with the component.

Common Applications for Gap Fillers

Liquid gap fillers are used in a variety of applications. For example, a low-viscosity liquid gap filler can be used to fill small gaps, while a high-viscosity liquid gap filler can be used to fill more significant gaps.

Gap Filler Application Examples:

  • Telecom and datacom
  • Automotive
  • Other high-volume production applications such as LED lighting and consumer electronics.
